Surface Pro – Pluses

First off there is a whole family of Surface Pro’s. Surface Pro 2, 3, and 4 also the Newest Model called the Surface Pro.

  • It is highly portable even with the keyboard, taking the Surface Pro with you daily or to travel on an airplane is a breeze. They are very lightweight.
  • The screen is just beautiful, amazingly clear stunning graphics.
  • Full windows 10 not a mobile version. Windows 10 Pro with Surface Pro 4 and Surface Pro
  • It comes with a kick stand nothing else needed to have it stands on a table.
  • The surface pen comes with some models great for notes or drawing. Surface Pro comes with the app. One note.
  • It has a full size USB port you can get a 4 port USB hub and have 4.

Surface Pro – Where There Are Pluses There Are Negatives

  • When, buy the Surface Pro you don’t get the keyboard. (But remember with Apple you don’t either)
  • The storage is on the smaller side. It starts at 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB.
  • A pretty small app store especially if you compare it to the Play Store (Android), and Apple.

Surface Pro – Let’s Break This Down A Bit

The Keyboard

I have to say they got this right, it has a track pad which I find as a big plus. The keys

have enough separation that it makes it easy to type on. You can up grade your keyboard because they are backwards compatible.

The newest keyboard has a fingerprint scanner as well as a bigger track pad. Remember you have to buy this seperate but you can find these on Amazon I have seen them for about $79.

The Surface Pen

When, buy the Surface 3 you don’t get the pen with it. The Surface Pro 3, 4, and the New Surface Pro all come with the Surface Pen.

The Surface Pen is powered by a AAA battery, they claim they will last for up to a year and a half. There are different pens, the newer pen just has more features and a softer tip for more

friction. They both have great control and it writes pretty much just like a pen. The newer pen has an eraser feature if you flip the pen around. It is backwards compatible.

There is a button on the back of the pen (also the eraser on the newer one) whether it’s the older pen or the newer pen they both when clicked open up an app called One Note. Great writing app that the pen works wonderfully with.

On the Surface Pro 3 & 4 also the new Surface Pro they come with software that you can change some functions of the pen itself.

Full Windows 10
Windows 10 Pro, Computer Software, Microsoft
No mobile version here it’s the real thing. With the Surface Pro 4 and The Surface Pro you get

Windows 10 Pro. This is great because you usually get a mobile version when it comes to a tablet. Surface Pro 3 comes with Windows 10.

Storage

As I said before the storage on the unit itself is on the small side especially after they have installed Windows 10 or the Pro version. As with any tablet IPad, IPad Pro included they have the limited storage as well.

The Surface Pro has an SD slot so you can easily add storage that way. Along with any other device you always have cloud storage so this shouldn’t be an issue.

Price

This is a bit pricey $679^ (Newer Models) but if you can find one on Amazon or E-bay you can save yourself a bunch of money. Of course as they added newer versions the older ones got less expensive.

Surface Pro – Bottom Line

There are some very good reasons to go with the Surface Pro. I like the fact that it comes with Windows 10 and not a mobile version. Having the option to add a SD card is great you can save the information for a back-up or to put on another device. With the SD card it also adds storage something an IPad won’t let you do.

The type cover offers a smooth typing experience and has a track pad so you don’t have to go out and buy a mouse and use the 1 USB port. You can add a USB hub to get more ports.

I did this review after using the Surface Pro 3 with the upgraded Pro 4 pen and it did everything I threw at it. I really like the compact design even with the keyboard attached. It’s easier than lugging around a heavy laptop.

Compared it to the IPad with a keyboard the Surface Pro can do just about anything a laptop can do. Whereas, the IPad wins on apps with the app store.

The difference between the Surface Pro 4 and The new Surface Pro, pretty much the same on the outside. The bulk of upgrades comes on the inside and it’s all about performance. With the New Surface Pro you can even play some games though it’s not a gaming computer. The battery life is better on the Surface Pro.

Everything comes down to what you want to do with the device and what will suite your needs. I would definitely recommend the Surface Pro Series, I would suggest to not go lower than a Surface Pro 3. The Surface Pro 4 pen, and just a simple black type case. This will get you in the Surface world and you can get all of this for around $630

an 8.8 out of 10
